Bloomsday and Beyond

Celebrating Ireland, Island of Writers

Every year on 16 June, Ireland tips its hat, often literally, to one of our most iconic literary figures. Bloomsday celebrates James Joyce’s epic tale Ulysses, which follows Leopold Bloom’s day and night of wandering through Dublin. But it’s also become something more: a tribute to the written word.

This year, we celebrate Bloomsday and Beyond, honouring not only Joyce’s revolutionary storytelling, but the Irish writers who came before and after him. The poets, the playwrights, the novelists and all those who have helped make Ireland a literary force far beyond our small size.

From classic voices to contemporary trailblazers, Ireland’s literary culture continues to thrive, supported by a vibrant network of festivals, arts funding, and readers who strongly believe in the power of a good story.

Whether you’re here for Bloomsday festivities or as a fan of the broader Irish literary landscape, welcome to the island of writers.
