An official website of the Government of Ireland. About ireland.ie

In 2025, Ireland and Brazil celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, with our ties growing stronger each year.

Our shared history extends well beyond the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975. Records dating back to the 16th century indicate that the Irish diaspora has played a significant role in many key moments of Brazil’s history.

Our contemporary connections are exemplified by the dynamic Brazilian community in Ireland (estimated to number well over 40,000 individuals), the active Irish community in Brazil, and Ireland’s growing affinity diaspora in Brazil.
