The ATLAS Initiative: Ambassador Peter Ryan's visit to Ijora, Lagos

Ambassador Ryan visited the Ijora suburb of Lagos with the ATLAS Initiative, a partner organisation of the Embassy who delivered a project in late 2025, training 200 young women in Lagos and Ogun states. Ambassador Ryan’s visit coincided with a major annual cultural festival, which celebrates the dynamic area which is home to 12,000+ people.

During the visit the Ambassador met with some of the beneficiaries from the ATLAS programme and also visited a local health centre, which serves as one of the safe spaces for young women. He also had a chance to meet with some of the 'champions' of the project who have undergone specialist training from ATLAS.

The visit included a courtesy meeting with the Oba of Olojora at his Palace as well as a meeting with some community elders when the Ambassador took the opportunity to thank them for their support for the project
