Partnership with the Arojah Royal Theatre, Abuja
As part of our ongoing work to promote cultural relations with Nigeria, the Embassy partnered with the Arojah Royal Theatre on two productions of Iyá Àriké on 1 May. A one-woman show written and directed by Om'Oba Jerry Adesewo, a long-standing partner of the Embassy, the story follows the life of a courageous and strong woman who overcomes many challenges in life including gender-based violence to make a life and a living for herself and her children in Lagos. The play managed to simultaneously make the audience laugh while imparting a very serious message regarding the need to address the scourge of sexual and gender based violence, and gender inequality. The production was also supported by Our Nigeria magazine, and saw attendance from both local and international community members. Bravo – we are looking forward to future productions including IN CONVERSATION WITH MY iPHONE 50 on 6 June in Whispers Art Haus, Maitama.
