An official website of the Government of Ireland. About ireland.ie

The first Irish missionaries arrived in the then Kingdom of Buganda in 1903, starting a continuous Irish presence in Uganda. In the years since, the Irish in Uganda have contributed in many fields – including education, business, and healthcare.

Shared commitments

With a strong and lasting commitment to working together, Ireland and Uganda are deepening a relationship which is now about much more than development cooperation.

Today, Irish business interests in Uganda are growing, Ireland supports Ugandan students seeking an education, and Irish culture is promoted and celebrated throughout the country. This is all supported by the strong diaspora in Uganda, with more than 100 members of the Irish community in the country today.
