Town twinning between Germany and Ireland

Ireland has 18 twinned towns across all of Germany. The majority of towns on the German side are situated in the two large southern states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

Bringing people together

Town twinning partnerships are of immeasurable importance when it comes to bringing together people in different countries and with different cultures. Many of these town twinning partnerships between Ireland and Germany have existed for decades and are a sign of the strength of the ties between our two countries, as well as the enthusiasm with which Irish and German communities continue to connect.

Presidency twinning

As part of an initiative during the Irish EU Presidency, each county in the State will be “paired” with a specific Member State of the EU for the period of the Presidency. Germany will be “paired” with Co. Limerick.
