Ireland's financial contribution

Ireland pays 0.009% of the Ordinary Budget to the Council of Europe each year.

As a Member State, Ireland contributes approximately €6 million to the Ordinary Budget of the Council of Europe each year. This money goes towards the various functions of the Council and each Member State pays relative to their country.

Ireland is proud to also fund a number of voluntary contribution areas:

  • Human Rights Trust Fund - €100,000
  • Webcasting of public hearings of the ECtHR - €80,000 (we are proud to be the funders, see here)
  • Reducing backlog of ECtHR cases - €100,000
  • Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” 2023-2026 - €50,000
  • Promoting cooperation with representatives of Belarusian democratic forces and civil society - €50,000
  • Council of Europe Overview of Cooperation Activities in Kosovo - €30,000
  • Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025-2028 - €30,000
  • Promoting human rights and equality for LGBTI persons IV - €15,000
