Celebrated annually to commemorate the founding of the African Union, Africa Day has continued to serve as a nationwide showcase of African culture, identity, and community. Across cities such as Dublin, Galway, Cork, and Limerick, people from all backgrounds gathered to experience the diversity and dynamism of the African continent.

Among those who helped bring the celebrations to life were Zambians living in Ireland, who joined fellow African communities in sharing their culture, heritage, and a sense of home away from home.

Founded in 2015, the Zambia–Ireland Association has become a key platform for the Zambian diaspora in Ireland. With a membership of about 350 Zambians, the Association continues to play an important role in promoting Zambian culture and supporting integration

This year, Zambians in Ireland participated in the celebrations in Dublin at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham https://www.ireland.ie/en/irish-aid/news-and-publications/latest-news/news-archive/africa-day-at-royal-hospital-kilmainham-kicks-off-nationwide-celebrations/. The event was organised in partnership between the Department and Dublin City Council. The venue was transformed into a lively cultural hub, with visitors experiencing an engaging mix of activities as different African countries presented their traditions through:

  • Traditional foods and flavours
  • Music and dance performances
  • Cultural displays and fashion
  • Tourism and heritage showcases
  • Storytelling

The event provided a family-friendly and inclusive atmosphere, welcoming both members of the African diaspora and the wider public. Whether attendees came to reconnect with familiar traditions or to discover something new, the celebration highlighted the role of culture in bringing people together.

Zambians and friends of Zambia living in Ireland joined fellow communities in celebrating Africa Day and showcasing the richness of African heritage.
