Visit to Poznań - September 2025
Head of Political Affairs, Dermot Fitzpatrick visited Poznań on the 8th of September, to welcome new Irish students at the Poznań University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) as they embark on a 5 year journey to become dentists. Representatives from the Canadian, American and Indian embassies we also there to greet an international class to begin their orientation week.
The students join a growing cohort of Irish students choosing to pursue their qualifications in Poland, and they add to the already existing student body in Poznań, but also those in Warsaw, Wrocław and Bydgoszcz.
After meeting with the students, Mr Fitzpatrick received a tour of the campus of the PUMS, the highlight of which was the ‘simulation wing’, where aspiring doctors, dentists, nurses and paramedics can experience realistic scenarios they can expect to face, learning to function in small apartments, operating theatres, and even moving ambulances.
Robots, programmed with real symptoms and injuries respond to care, and there are also a suite of GP rooms, where actors present with illnesses and can give immediate feedback on bedside manner and body language, in addition to the assessment of the medical care.
Following this, Mr Fitzpatrick embarked on a walking tour of Poznań, hosted by Vice Honorary Consul Krzysztof Schramm and Justyna Schramm of the Irish Culture Foundation of Poznań. This tour encompassed the history of Poznań, including recent connections with Ireland, including two Presidential visits, and the lasting impact left by the Irish fans at Euro 2012.
