Visit to Olsztyn - September 2025

Ambassador Haughey visited Olsztyn on 24-25 September. The Ambassador met with Voivode Radosław Król and Deputy Mayor Radosław Zawadzki. He also visited the University of Warmia and Mazury.

In meetings with the Voivode and the Deputy Mayor, the Ambassador discussed Irish-Polish bilateral cooperation, including our common objective to ensure security in Europe. He also highlighted the growing economic ties between Ireland and Poland, with two way trade now worth over €8.5 billion annually.

Voivode Radosław Król kindly arranged a tour for the Ambassador of Olsztyn Castle, where Nicolas Copernicus worked for several years, and developed some of his most important theories.

Since 2023 there have been a growing number of Irish students in Olsztyn, studying veterinary medicine. The Ambassador visited the University of Warmia and Mazury to hear about these growing connections, and the programme which the English Department offers the students.
