Job opportunities at the OSCE
Find information on job opportunities within the OSCE organisation
The OSCE Secretariat is based in Vienna with field presences across Europe and Central Asia. Opportunities also periodically arise at the Representative on the Freedom of the Media (RFOM) in Vienna, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in Warsaw, and the High Commissioner on National Minorities (HCNM) in The Hague. All current vacancies can be found on the OSCE’s website.
Which jobs can Irish nationals apply for?
There are two main types of employment in the OSCE – Contracted and seconded positions. Contracted staff are hired and paid by the OSCE. Contracted positions are marked ‘D’, ‘P’, or ‘G’ while seconded positions are marked ‘S’. Seconded staff are nominated and financed directly by their respective States. We are unfortunately not in a position to nominate candidates for seconded positions in the OSCE Secretariat, the RFOM, ODIHR, or the HCNM.
Staff seconded to OSCE field missions receive a Board and Lodging Allowance (BLA). This is paid by the OSCE and differs year-to-year based on the cost of living in the area. Ireland can nominate individuals who apply for seconded vacancies in OSCE field missions subject to meeting the minimum requirements. You can apply for these jobs through the OSCE’s website, and your application will be automatically sent to Ireland’s Permanent Mission.
Consultancies
The OSCE recruits consultants to provide advisory services and expert assistance on a short-term and ad-hoc basis.
Internships
The OSCE offers internships to individuals under the age of 30 according to the current needs and facilities of various Departments. Internships usually last between two to six months and do not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme
The OSCE offers a limited number of positions to young professionals under the age of 30 to gain experience in the OSCE Secretariat, Institutions, and field operations. JPOs gain practical experience in different subject areas during a three-month period at the Secretariat followed by a six-month period in the OSCE’s field operations/ Institutions.
