EMPOWER! – Reversing the toll of displacement and drought on girls' education in Somalia
The ‘EMPOWER!’ programme, run by World Vision and supported by Irish Aid, continues to support the enrolment of the most vulnerable girls in schools and their wellbeing.
In 2025, the programme supported the enrolment and attendance of 1,526 girls across 21 schools in Nugal, Sanaag and Mudug regions in Puntland State, Somalia.

Since the start of 2025, the programme has support such as Sarah, who is now part of the reading club after school where they create stories and play games in groups.
Through reading clubs and creative writing approaches, EMPOWER! ensures that girls remain at school, improving their school performance and peer relationships while building their confidence and agency to speak up, contributing to their improved wellbeing.
