Taoiseach Micheál Martin undertook an official visit to Berlin to meet with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as part of the preparations for Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Taoiseach and the Chancellor discussed Ireland’s priorities for its Presidency including competitiveness, security, values and the next EU budget, among other topics, before proceeding to a joint press conference.
During the visit, Taoiseach Micheál Martin & Chancellor Friedrich Merz highlighted Ireland and Germany's close relationship, underscored by our joint membership of and steadfast commitment to the European Union.
The meeting further underlined the strong Irish-German relationship.
