Ambassador Maeve Collins hosts 2026 Bloomsday Reception in Berlin
To mark Bloomsday, 16 June - the day on which James Joyce’s Ulysses is set in 1904 - Ambassador Collins hosted a reception with a cultural programme in the official Residence in Berlin.
Bloomsday, celebrated annually on 16 June, is a global literary celebration that marks the day on which James Joyce’s Ulysses is set in 1904.
In Berlin, Ambassador Maeve Collins hosted a Bloomsday Reception in the Official Residence. Following opening remarks by the Ambassador, the evening's programme included:
- Essay excerpts by Tim MacGabhann
- Readings from Ulysses by Ambassador Maeve Collins and Arthur Sullivan
- Joyce’s poetry set to music, performed by An Cór, the Embassy Choir, Maeve Carolan, and Candice Gordon.
The Embassy would like to extend a special thanks to Choir Director Laura Murphy, Conductor Maeve Carolan and all the members of the choir for their work. We also express our gratitude to Adrian Crowley and Matthew Nolan for the music for Bahnhofstrasse from Joyce’s Pomes Penyeach.
