Deputy Permanent Representative of Ireland to the European Union

Cáit Moran is Ireland’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union. She took up this appointment in August 2024.

Prior to this, Cáit served as Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union from January 2023 - July 2024.

From May - December 2022, Cáit served as Ambassador-Deputy Permanent Representative at Ireland’s Mission to the United Nations in New York during Ireland’s tenure as an elected member of the UN Security Council.

From December 2021 - April 2022, she served as Acting Political Director at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

From 2020 - 2021, she served as Director for North Africa and the Middle East Peace Process at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin.

From 2018 – 2020, she was Special Envoy for Small Island Development States in the Pacific region as part of Ireland’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (2021-2022).

From 2015 - 2019, she served as Ireland’s Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with accreditations from Hanoi to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

From 2012 -2015, Cáit was Director for Humanitarian Affairs and Global Programmes at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

She has also been posted to Ireland’s Embassy in South Africa (Head of Development, 2007-2012) and to the Consulate General of Ireland in New York (Vice Consul, 1999-2002).

Cáit joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1998 as a Third Secretary in the EU Division. She has also served in Protocol Division and Development Cooperation Division in Dublin.
