Ireland in the Czech Republic
Historical links between Ireland and the Czech Republic can be seen today in the centre of Prague on Hybernská street, named after the Irish Franciscan monks who established a monastery there in the 17th century. Czech-Irish links continue to develop today.
Ireland and the Czech Republic share a similar outlook across many key areas, including the promotion of human rights and the rule of law.
We are both committed to multilateralism, and we continue to cooperate closely both bilaterally and especially through the framework of our shared membership of the European Union.
Trade and people-to-people connections
The economic, trade and investment links between our two countries continue to grow, with two-way trade reaching over €4.3 billion annually.
There is a strong Irish presence in the Czech Republic, with around 1,000 Irish citizens estimated to be resident here. Over the years, Irish people have made their mark in the Czech Republic with many active community groups, a notable population of students of Irish studies, and multiple GAA teams introducing GAA to new generations of Irish and Czechs.
