Ireland Celebrating Pride
In recent decades, Ireland has been on a journey of social change and transformation.
Marriage Equality
Same-sex sexual relations between consenting males was decriminalised in 1993. On 22 May 2015, Ireland became the first country in the world to vote to provide for equal marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.
Policy priority
The promotion and protection of the rights of LGBTQI+ persons is a domestic and foreign policy priority for Ireland.
Participation in annual Pride events shows our support to LGBTQI+ persons and LGBTQI+ civil society and draws attention to the inequalities experienced by persons with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, and sex characteristics.
