Event Title: Afro Beats Night

What’s on: Afrobeats Night is an over-18s celebration of African music and talent.

This year’s event will take place across two venues. The evening begins at The Crane Lane with a full live band performance up to 10pm. From 10pm until late, the night continues at The Kino with individual performances from Cork-based singers, rappers and DJs, bringing high-energy Afrobeats sounds to the city.

What’s on: A loud, proud and high-energy Africa Day parade through the heart of Cork city.

All 54 African nations will be represented as their flags are proudly flown, accompanied by singing, dancing and vibrant performances. The parade will begin at the top of Oliver Plunkett Street and travel towards Grand Parade, before participants hop aboard an open-top bus to continue the celebration across the city centre.

What’s on: On Friday 22nd, an Opening Ceremony will take place at the Carrigtwohill Community Centre at 12.30pm, which will include a Flag Parade with Burindi Drummers. This will be followed by a 7 aside soccer tournament consisting of 12 teams at Ballyadam Park (kick off at 5.30pm) Teams must register by May 15. On Saturday 23rd, from 5.00pm there will be lots of family fun at the Community Centre with food, a flag parade and Burindi Drummers. This will be followed by a seminar at 6.30pm - From Fear to Understanding: Conversations on Migration. The seminar is open to all.

Event Title: Visit by YA author Zainab Boladale

What’s on: Zainab is an award-winning Nigerian-Irish journalist, Young Adult author and presenter. Over the past decade, she has produced hundreds of feature stories for RTÉ, highlighting the people, communities and cultures that make Ireland vibrant.

She also explores the themes of identity through fiction, film, and public projects. Her debut book, Braids Take A Day (2024), was shortlisted for Best YA Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards. Her newest novel Looking for Aurora! is due to be published.

Experience workshops and performances, including song, dance and an interpretation of an Eboo wedding ceremony from the Igbo cultural traditions. Youth voices are also at the centre of the day, celebrating identity, heritage and community in The Model’s welcoming and inclusive surroundings.
