Consul General
Marylee Wall
Welcome message
A warm welcome to the website of the new Consulate General of Ireland in Málaga.
It is a great honour and a true privilege to serve as Ireland’s first Consul General in the beautiful and historic city of Málaga and to represent Ireland across the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Murcia, Extremadura and the Canary Islands. Together with the team at the Consulate, and Ireland’s Honorary Consuls across these regions, and working closely with the Embassy of Ireland in Madrid, we look forward to building links across all of southern Spain and the Canary Islands, and to serving Irish citizens both living in and visiting the regions we will cover.
The Consulate General of Ireland in Málaga is Ireland’s 107th diplomatic mission and the 27th mission to open under Ireland’s ‘Global Ireland’ strategy, which has seen Ireland’s overseas presence expand considerably. The opening of the Consulate General is a strong signal of the importance of Ireland’s bilateral relationship with Spain, a relationship that is centuries old and which continues to endure and grow ever stronger. Today, Spain is the most popular destination for Irish tourists. Andalusia and the Canary Islands account for over half of all annual visits from Ireland to Spain and the number of visits from Ireland continues to grow year on year, surpassing 3 million for the first time in 2025.
As we establish the Consulate, I look forward to exploring the deep historic links between our countries and to meeting the many friends of Ireland across southern Spain and the Canary Islands. The opportunities to work together on initiatives ranging from culture, sport, education, trade and business are endless and I am excited about taking these forward in the period ahead.
I hope you find the information on our website useful. I would also encourage you to follow our social media channels for the latest news and updates. I very much look forward to meeting many in the Irish community and beyond during my tenure as Consul General.
Le gach dea-ghuí; With warm wishes
