It is an honour to be the Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Moldova and to be the first resident ambassador from Ireland.

The bilateral relations between Ireland and the Republic of Moldova are strong and grounded in shared values and a common European heritage.

The reporting by the Irish patriot Michael Davitt from Chisinau at the start of the twentieth century was a significant contributor to ending at that point the pogroms in this region.

Irish literature and music is popular and widely available in Moldova. The people in both countries have a strong attachment and interest in sports and community activities. A shared history of emigration resulted in divided families but also in a global outlook and awareness that has fed a keen interest in events across the globe.

The large Moldovan Diaspora makes a positive contribution to Ireland’s economy and society and have helped to being two countries on the edges of Europe closer than the distances might suggest is possible.

Ireland and Moldova are members and partners in international such as the United Nations, working closely together to promote shared values of equality, democracy and human rights. Ireland is working with, and supporting, Moldova as it moves towards its ambition of EU membership, an ambition that has been endorsed by Moldovan voters.

The level of bilateral trade provides scope to grow in the years ahead and the Embassy is working with state agencies to increase the availability of Irish products on the market in Moldova.

The small but growing Irish community, as well as our large affinity diaspora, is at the heart of the Irish-Moldova relationship, and central to the work of the Embassy.

Myles Geiran, a native of Dublin, became Ireland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova in September 2025, having previously served in HQ at Africa Unit (2022-25) and as Ambassador to Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (2017-2022). He served as Ireland’s Deputy Chief of Mission to Partnership for Peace, Brussels (2012-2017).

He undertook graduate-level study of the financial markets at Dublin City University, and was awarded a first from University College Dublin in European Economics and Politics that included study periods in the European University in Florence and at the University in Louvaine, Belgium. Myles entered the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1998, and was assigned to Anglo-Irish Division.

In 1999, Myles was appointed Private Secretary to the Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and was posted in the year 2000 to the Embassy of Ireland, Paris. Following an assignment as Humanitarian Affairs Officer at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Myles was seconded in 2003 as policy adviser on European Affairs to the Parliament of Ireland, and was promoted to First Secretary.

He subsequently served in Washington D.C. 2007-2011 as Press Officer at the Embassy of Ireland to the United States, before returning to Ireland and serving as Assistant Chief of Protocol in Dublin 2011-2012.
