Ambassador of Ireland to Jordan
Nicole McHugh
Welcome message
A chairde, الاصدقاء الاعزاء , dear friends,
It is a great privilege to serve as Ireland’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq. Since my arrival in Amman, I have been met with immense warmth and hospitality, and I am proud to contribute to the continued strengthening of Ireland’s relationships with both nations.
Together with the dedicated Embassy team I will work over the next four years to build on the already strong political, economic and wider engagement between Ireland and Jordan. We will continue to prioritise the promotion of trade, investment and institutional linkages, support for women and youth, delivering Ireland’s development and humanitarian programme in Jordan, showcasing Irish culture, and providing assistance to Irish citizens.
Ireland’s partnership with Jordan is built on shared values, mutual respect, and a commitment to peace, dialogue, education, and opportunity. We greatly value Jordan’s dedication to promoting regional stability and cooperation. We will continue to work closely with international partners to provide humanitarian and development assistance to people most in need across the region. Ireland remains committed to global peace and stability, sustainable development, human rights and respect for international humanitarian law.
The Embassy will continue our support for young people through initiatives such as the Jordan Young Scientist (JoYS) programme, which encourages students to deepen their understanding of STEM subjects through independent learning and innovation and our work in support of the development of a National Youth Strategy. I look forward to engaging with all our partners and identifying ways to strengthen institutional linkages between Ireland and Jordan across a range of areas and to supporting Jordan’s economic modernisation vision.
Ireland also enjoys a longstanding and evolving relationship with Iraq and I look forward to expanding our cooperation across areas including trade, education, development and peacebuilding.
As Ambassador, I am committed to deepening these relationships, fostering greater understanding between our peoples, and identifying new opportunities for cooperation in the years ahead.
