Affinity diaspora - Ireland Fellows Programme

Ireland believes that education is central to creating a better world. Since 1974, almost 4,000 people from around the world have studied at Master’s level as part of the Ireland Fellows Programme, one of Ireland’s most longstanding development aid programmes.

This highly competitive Fellowship supports participants to study at Ireland’s top class third level institutions, gaining skills to contribute to their countries and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on their return home.

Strong affinity diaspora

The Fellowship alumni represent a strong affinity diaspora, and we will continue to strengthen that alumni network through our Embassies and online.

The scheme was expanded in recent years to include students from Latin America and the Caribbean, in line with Ireland’s Strategy for Latin America and the Caribbean. This has seen 37 Fellows from thirteen countries in the region benefit from the programme since the academic year 2023/24.
