Primary school pupils in classrooms across Ireland can help create a better world for all children, through creative learning and understanding the role Ireland is playing in tackling world issues.
The Our World Awards - Irish Aid’s primary school awards programme provides an opportunity for 3rd - 6th class pupils to learn how Ireland, through the Irish Aid programme, responds to the challenges of a world affected by hunger, climate change, and conflict and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Our World Awards challenges primary school children, as global citizens, to put the spotlight on world issues by submitting creative projects.
Students can let their imaginations flow by submitting projects using film, songs, photography, poetry, performance, documentary, painting or drawing, and be in with a chance to win amazing prizes.
Specially created curriculum-linked class resources are available to help teachers and pupils to learn about each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Irish Aid’s focus countries.
National Final
Each year, the Our World Awards hosts a National Final Ceremony to celebrate the outstanding work submitted by pupils and to reward shortlisted schools for their excellence.
Are you and your class up for the challenge?

Sustainable Development Goals
All countries of the United Nations, including Ireland, are working together to create a better future for all children.
In 2015, the United Nations agreed a plan to transform our world by solving our most serious problems such as poverty and hunger, injustice, and climate change. This plan is called the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs). It hopes to meet the ambitious target by 2030.
At the heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals is an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, in global partnership.
They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education and reduce inequality all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.
Ireland playing its part
Irish Aid is the Irish Government’s official development assistance (ODA) programme to fight world hunger and poverty on behalf of all the people of Ireland.
Ireland’s ODA programme aims to reduce poverty, hunger and humanitarian need, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa.
By supporting long term development and improving humanitarian assistance, on behalf of the Irish people, we are helping to build better futures for the world’s poorest communities.
Ireland is playing its part in addressing poverty, injustice, and damage to our planet.
