Global Solidarity Run 2026
The Global Solidarity Run, an initiative enabling people to show their solidarity with those who are forcibly displaced and people living in extreme poverty, returns this October.
Organised by the Irish not-for-profit movement the Sanctuary Runners, the event saw diplomatic missions of Ireland, organisations, clubs and individuals in 100 countries take part last year.
The Global Solidarity Run provides an opportunity to bring people together for a fun event that is rooted in Ireland’s values. This year’s Global Solidarity Run will form a key part of our schedule of public events to mark Ireland’s EU Presidency. A large Global Solidarity Run will take place in Dublin on Sunday, 11 October.
Supported by Irish Aid, the European Commission and the Ireland Funds, the worldwide run begins each year in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Solomon Islands and works its way westwards until it concludes the pacific islands of French Polynesia.
Last year, sixty six Irish embassies and consulates took part in the Global Solidarity Run – and that number is set to grow again this year.
This year’s programme will begin and conclude in Kenya, while events will take place across every region of the world. The initiative continues to bring together a wide range of partners, including GAA International, the London Marathon Foundation, the Olympic Refuge Foundation, UNHCR, World Athletics, Sport Ireland and Athletics Ireland.
The 2026 Dublin Global Solidarity Run will take place on Sunday, 11 October at the Sports Ireland campus in Blanchardstown, with a particular focus on Ireland’s EU Presidency. The event will be co-hosted by the European Commission Representation in Ireland. The aim of the initiative is not to raise funds but rather to provide people with an opportunity to show their solidarity.

The 2026 Global Solidarity Run is a sign of our enduring commitment to standing in solidarity with the people in the world left furthest behind.
Graham Clifford, founder of Sanctuary Runners expressed his gratitude for all the support in this, the third year of the run. He said:
