Irish Film Festival Frankfurt and Saarbrücken
Following a sold-out, inaugural festival last year, we're delighted to say that a second, expanded Irish Film Festival will run from 30 October-1 November!
We're very excited that the festival will not only return to Harmonie Kino in Frankfurt but will also be hosted for the first time at Filmhaus Saarbrücken.
The festival programmes will feature the following recently released, critically acclaimed Irish films:
An adaptation of Claire Keegan’s Booker Prize-nominated 2021 novella, Small Things Like These stars Cillian Murphy as coal merchant, Bill Furlong, who makes a discovery that forces him to confront his past and the complicit silence of his town. Small Things Like These won Best Film at the 2025 IFTA Awards. Consul General of Ireland in Frankfurt, Anne-Marie Flynn, will open the screenings.
Unfolding a story about female leadership, human rights activism and climate action, Mrs. Robinson tells the inspirational life story of change-maker Mary Robinson: Ireland’s first female President, a pioneering United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the successor of Nelson Mandela as Chair of The Elders Foundation. Mrs. Robinson was nominated by the Irish Film and Television Awards for the 2025 George Morrison Feature Documentary Award.
Irish language film Fidil Ghorm tells the story of a 10 year old girl called Molly who believes that if she learns to play the fiddle like her dad did and win the All Ireland’s that she can wake him up from a coma. Fidil Ghorm won the prestigious Audience Award for Best Irish Feature at the 2024 Newport Beach Film Festival.
