Team Ireland in Germany

Working with Irish State Agencies

The Consulate General of Ireland in Frankfurt works with a number of Irish State Agencies to promote trade and investment between Ireland and the regions of Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland and to promote Ireland as a place to visit and in which to invest.

Germany is Ireland’s:

4th largest merchandise trading partner
3rd largest export market for Irish food and drink
2nd largest source of Foreign Direct Investment after the USA
3rd most important holiday market to Ireland

The Embassy works closely with the Irish State Agencies to promote continued growth in these areas. The Ambassador chairs the Germany local market team.

We can:

Support Irish companies who want to find and access new markets and help with resolving commercial difficulties where possible
Provide general advice on doing business locally including to German companies seeking to source Irish products and, through our network of contacts, pursue export and investment opportunities that will benefit Ireland
Work to secure market access for Irish products in key sectors
Promote Ireland as a location for tourism and for investment

Consul General Peter Neary

Peter Neary was appointed as Ireland’s third Consul General in Frankfurt in August 2026. Before taking up his assignment in Frankfurt, Peter served as Deputy Director of the International Security Policy Unit at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin.

Prior to that, Peter was Deputy Head of Mission in the Embassy of Ireland in Tokyo from 2019-2023, and Deputy Director of the Africa Unit in the Development Cooperation and Africa Division in Dublin from 2016-2019, covering Ireland’s four Embassies and six development cooperation programmes in the Southern Africa region. Peter has also worked in the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, on corporate services issues, and in the Department of Finance, in the International Financial Institutions Division, focusing on the European Investment Bank. Earlier in his career, he also worked in the Legal Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and in the Embassy of Ireland in Berlin.

Peter holds a B.A. (International) in Legal Science and German, and an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of Galway, an LLM (Master of European Laws) from University College Dublin and an Advanced Diploma in Legislative Drafting from the Honorable Society of Kings’ Inns.

Deputy Consul General Clíodhna O'Reardon

Clíodhna began her posting to Frankfurt as Deputy Consul General in August 2026. Leading on areas including consular affairs, public diplomacy, engagement with the Irish community and the day to day running of the Consulate, Clíodhna works closely with Consul General Neary and the rest of the team in order to deliver on the Consulate’s wide-ranging work.

Prior to taking up her posting in Frankfurt, Clíodhna served as Desk Officer in the Middle East and North Africa Unit at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Dublin. Clíodhna has also worked in the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications on the National Broadband Plan.

Clíodhna holds a B.A (Hons) in European Studies with Spanish (major) and German (minor) from Trinity College Dublin and a Certificate in Economics for Diplomacy from the Institute of Public Administration.

Martina Klingbeil-Sadowski

Martina has been working with the Consulate since October 2019, having previously worked with Australian and Canadian governmental representations in Frankfurt. Martina manages public communications, deals with certain consular, legal and administrative issues and has a key role in relation to the Consulate's event management functions.

Emily Kenny

Emily started working at the Consulate in September 2023. She is originally from Ireland, but grew up in Frankfurt. Her duties at the Consulate primarily relate to financial administration and social media management. Prior to joining the Consulate team, Emily worked in the arts sector in Scotland. She holds a BSc (hons) in Theoretical Physics from the University of Glasgow, and further qualifications in creative disciplines.

Aisling Dolan

Aisling joined the Consulate team in December 2024. She is originally from Dublin, Ireland, but has been living in Frankfurt for several years. Her main responsibilities at the Consulate relate to office and property management, as well as supporting the provision of consular service. Prior to joining the team, Aisling worked as a Legal Analyst in the Legislation Division of the European Central Bank.

Aisling holds a LLB in Law (International) from Maynooth University, and a MSC in Public Policy and Human Development from the United Nations University MERIT in Maastricht.
