Who needs a visa
Whether you need a visa to travel to Ireland depends on what country you're from. Visit the Irish Immigration Service Travel Path for more information regarding your personal requirements for travelling to Ireland.
Information on visa requirements for transiting through Ireland is available on IrishImmigration.ie
Please note that Ireland is not party to the Schengen Agreement, and a Schengen visa or residence permit does not entitle you to travel to Ireland without a visa.
Unless you qualify for the Short Stay Visa Waiver Programme or the British Irish Visa Scheme a valid UK visa does not entitle you to travel to Ireland without a visa. Further information on these schemes is available on the website of the Irish Immigration Service.
Note: A visa allows you to travel to Ireland only. It does not give you permission to enter the country or to stay here. An immigration officer at border control can refuse entry even if you have a visa.

If you're a citizen of a non-EEA country, whether you need a visa or not, you will be subject to immigration control when you enter Ireland.

How to apply
You need to:
- Complete the online application form
- This will generate an application summary form and declaration at the end, which you must print, sign and date.
- Gather your supporting documentation, passport photograph and fee.
- Submit your application
To complete the process, you must submit your passport and supporting documents for processing. Where you submit your application depends on where you are living. The summary application form will direct you to the relevant Embassy, Consulate or Visa Application Centre.
If you applied directly to an Irish Immigration Service Visa Office or if your application was referred to the Irish Immigration Service for a decision, you can check the Irish Immigration Service Visa Decision Weekly Listing using your reference number.
If you applied at an Embassy or Consulate, they will contact you once a decision on the visa application has been made.
Visa appeals
If your visa application is refused, you will receive a letter from the visa office telling you why it has been refused and if you can appeal the decision.

Visa services for Colombia / Servicio de visa para Colombia

Los residentes en Colombia deben presentar sus solicitudes de visa a través de VFS Global Services en Bogotá.
Puede programar una cita con VFS Global para la entrega de documentos, a través del siguiente enlace Agendar una cita. Alternativamente, puede enviar los documentos por mensajería a VFS Global. Tenga en cuenta que, si envía su solicitud por correo certificado, debe mencionar en el sobre que el paquete está dirigido a VFS Bogotá – IRLANDA.
El pago de tasas consulares y servicio VFS (obligatorio) se puede realizar una vez asista a la cita, con tarjeta de débito o crédito. También puedes realizar el pago mediante depósito bancario en la cuenta bancaria publicada en el siguiente enlace Bogotá | vfsglobal. Si envía la solicitud y los documentos por mensajería, deberá incluir el comprobante de pago en el sobre.

Residents in Colombia must submit their visa applications through VFS Global Services in Bogotá.
You can schedule an appointment with VFS Global to deliver documents, through the following link Schedule an appointment. Alternatively, you could send the documents by courier to VFS Global. Please note that, if you send your application by certified mail, you must mention on the envelope that the package is addressed to VFS Bogotá – IRELAND.
Payment of consular fees and VFS service (mandatory) can be made once you attend the appointment, with a debit or credit card. You can also make the payment by bank deposit in the bank account published in the following link Bogota | vfsglobal. If you are sending the application and documents by courier, you must include the proof of payment in the envelope.

Los residentes en Venezuela deben presentar sus solicitudes de visa a través de VFS Global Services en Caracas.

Alternatively, you could send the documents by courier to VFS Global. Please note that, if you send your application by certified mail, you must mention on the envelope that the package is addressed to VFS Caracas – IRELAND. You must contact VFS directly to get the payment details and you must include proof of payment in the envelope.

Visa Services for Your Location
Visas de corta estadía – estancias de menos de 90 días: mínimo 3 semanas, desde que la solicitud es recibida en la Embajada.
Visas de larga estadía – estancias de más de 90 días: de 6 a 8 semanas, desde que la solicitud es recibida por un oficial de visas en Dublín.
Note: Algunas categorías como visas de Join Family pueden tomar más tiempo.
Apelaciones: Tenga en cuenta que los tiempos de procesamiento actuales para las apelaciones son de 7 a 10 meses. (Al 30 de Enero de 2024).
Tenga en cuenta que los tiempos pueden extenderse en temporadas altas, como la temporada de verano. Los días festivos nacionales no se consideran dentro de los plazos de respuesta.

Short-stay visas – stays of less than 90 days: minimum 3 weeks, from the moment the application is received at the Embassy.
Long-stay visas – stays of more than 90 days: 6 to 8 weeks, from the moment the application is received by a visa officer in Dublin.
Note: Some applications like Join Family Visas may take longer.
Appeals: Current processing times for appeals are from 7 – 10 months. (As of January 30th 2024).
Please note that turnaround times may be extended by up to 2 extra weeks in peak seasons, such as summer season. National holidays are not considered within the turnaround times.
