Consulate History

The Consulate General of Ireland in Sydney was opened in 2000 by the then Taosieach Bertie Ahern T.D. It was one of a number of new Irish diplomatic and consular Missions opened at that time as part of the Irish Government’s new Asia Strategy, and in Sydney’s case in recognition of the large Irish and Irish-Australian community in New South Wales.
The Consulate was originally located at 400 George Street. In 2006 the Consulate moved to our current location at 1 Market Street.
The area of remit for the Consulate General of Ireland in Sydney is New South Wales.

Osclaíodh Ard-chonsalacht na hÉireann in Sydney sa bhliain 2000 agus ba é Taoiseach an lae, Bertie Ahern T.D. a d’oscail é. B’shin ceann de na Misin nua-thaidhleoireachta agus consalaigh Éireannacha a osclaíodh mar chuid de straitéis nua Rialtas na hÉireann le linn an ama sin dírithe ar limistéar na hÁise, agus, i gcás Sydney, bhí mar aidhm aitheantas a thabhairt don chomhphobal mór Éireannach agus Gael-Astrálach i New South Wales. Ar dtús bhí an Chonsalacht suite i 400 Sráid Seoirse, ach i 2006 aistríodh ár n-oifig go dtí láthair nua, uimhir a hAon Sráid an Mhargaidh, áit a bhfuilimid lonnaithe ó shin.
